Care Guide

Silk Care Guide

Quick Touch ups

  • When your order arrives, it will be folded. The best way to deal with the fold lines is to steam or carefully iron on the lowest silk setting.
  • For extra protection, place a clean cotton cloth between your iron and scarf.
  • If you are nervous to use heat, I have also found it works to use the scarf gently and then leave it to hang, and the creases do fall out.

Washing

  • It is recommended to wash silk infrequently. When you do, treat your scarf to a gentle hand wash in lukewarm water (do not use hot water!)
  • Choose a mild detergent specially made for silk or delicates.
  • Swish gently for a couple of minutes without rubbing or twisting.
  • Rinse thoroughly until the water runs clear.

Drying

  • Press excess water out between clean towels (please don't wring it out)
  • Lay your scarf flat on a fresh towel away from direct sunlight.
  • Avoid hanging your wet scarf as gravity will pull and potentially stretch it out of shape.

Storage

  • Hang your scarf on a padded or rounded hanger to prevent sharp creases.
  • Alternatively, roll the scarf loosely or fold with tissue paper between layers.
  • Keep it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
  • Allow some breathing room between scarves when hanging to prevent snagging.

Oops! Stains?

  • Spotted something? Blot (never rub!) immediately with a clean cloth.
  • For water-based stains, gently dab with a tiny bit of silk-friendly detergent.
  • Oil marks? Try sprinkling a little talcum powder to absorb the oil.
  • When in doubt, trust a professional dry cleaner with silk experience.

No-No's

  • Keep harsh detergents, bleach and fabric softeners far away from your silk.
  • Apply perfumes and hairsprays before putting on your scarf.
  • Skip the washing machine and dryer completely.
  • Avoid storing in plastic bags which can trap moisture.

TENCEL Care Guide

Washing

  • Ideally hand wash in the same way as silk, to help your delicate Tencel garment last. Alternately you can use your machine on a gentle cycle using cold water.
  • Use a mild, more eco-friendly detergent to minimise environmental impact.
  • Avoid harsh detergents and bleaches, as they can damage the fabric’s integrity.

Drying & Storage

  • Air-dry whenever possible. If using a dryer, select a low heat setting to prevent excessive shrinkage or damage to the fibres.
  • When ironing, be very careful. Use a low heat setting whilst slightly damp. You can also use a clean cloth to protect the fabric and avoid any shine marks.
  • Hang TENCEL garments to allow them to breathe and prevent creasing. Avoid direct sunlight, which can cause colours to fade over time.
